The Quell Foundation is proud to bestow the 2018 Quell Foundation Achievement Award to Brooke DuBois, a Scituate High School Junior and President and CEO of The Doghouse (http://theofficialdoghouse.com).
“Brooke exemplifies the strength and tenacity that is needed to bring awareness to the day-to-day obstacles that young adults are forced to overcome in this fast-paced, technologically-driven world,” said Kevin Lynch, The Quell Foundation CEO. “An advocate of The Quell Foundation from its earliest days, this extraordinary young woman has been an avid supporter both financially and by actively participating in the foundation’s mission to remove the stigma of mental health.”
Ms. DuBois accepted her award, presented by premiere sponsor McKinsey & Company, at The Quell Foundation 2018 Masquerade Ball held this past November. This year’s event took place at the Newport Marriott in Newport, R.I. and was hosted by guest emcee, John O’Hurley, known for his roles on Seinfeld and The National Dog Show.
A junior at Scituate High School, Brooke’s contribution to The Quell Foundation’s mission has been significant, raising nearly $8,000 for the Foundation since 2015. A longtime member of Team Quell at the Falmouth Road Race, Brooke was instrumental in aiding the organization in raising over $35,000 for this year’s Run for Peace of Mind.
In front of a nearly 400-person crowd, Brooke accepted her award and spoke eloquently about the stresses young people endure. “Anxiety, depression, and suicide is on the rise because teens live with the day-to-day stress of academics, athletics, social media, and feeling safe in their schools,” she said. “It is my goal to help lead the effort, along with The Quell Foundation, to decrease teen anxiety, depression and suicide.” DuBois maintains a 4.3 cumulative GPA under an advanced curriculum track. An avid soccer player for the past decade, she is a member of the South Shore Select Soccer Club–a program known for building strong women on and off the field. Over the past two years, she has led a clothing drive and collected over 2,500 pounds of clothing for The Big Brother Big Sister Foundation. She volunteers for Our Sisters and Brothers Keeper Foundation, a Boston-based group that aids the homeless, mentally ill, and those suffering from addiction.
Most notably, she serves as the President and CEO of The Dog House (http://theofficialdoghouse.com). Created in 2017, the website lets customers purchase clothing with The Dog House logo, using portions of the profits to help rescue dogs around the country in need of medical care.
