For the first time, an international health care worker joins forces with The Quell Foundation’s Lift the Mask Podcast to highlight some of the critical aspects in global mental health relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. In this episode, a long-term care nurse from the Netherlands with a hearty personality, Niek, goes through his memories of the past year. While the pressure built upon him and his co-workers, loneliness, and isolation began to set in. With what felt like a lack of support from the top, Niek struggled with his mental health but was fortunate enough to have strong connections with mental health providers. Niek shares the story of his struggle with loneliness and helplessness on the frontlines, what it took for him to get help, and how we can support one another in looking after ourselves.
