Generally, in an ICU, there is one, possibly two very sick patients, but when COVID arrived in NYC, there were so many patients that the workload tripled almost overnight. Kristen explains the deluge of sickness and the overwhelming experience it was to handle the pandemic in its earliest stages. Kristen speaks to the moral distress, confusion, and the uncertainty that gripped the hospital; But, when their own began getting sick, her physical & mental strength was compromised. She reached out for help.
